Alejandro Jose Ramos is the founder of the Ramos Research Institute (RRI) and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) candidate at Cornell University, where he was selected as a Brooks Public Policy Fellow. With a background in Political Science, Spanish, and Journalism, Alejandro focuses his research on civics, education policy, and media literacy, aiming to create accessible insights for the public and advance public service and policy.
As part of this mission, RRI is conducting a survey titled “From Dialogue to Silence: A Survey on Cancel Culture in U.S. Universities.” This research explores how cancel culture intersects with free speech, mental well-being, and campus life. The findings will inform educators, researchers, and policymakers about its implications for academic environments and contribute to actionable solutions for enhancing inclusivity and discourse in higher education.
Why this topic?
As a researcher and student, Alejandro has observed how fear of expressing differing opinions and reliance on digital spaces have disrupted meaningful discourse in academic settings. This survey aims to shed light on how these dynamics impact campus life, free speech, and student well-being, offering insights to foster healthier and more inclusive academic communities.
Who can participate?
The survey is open to undergraduate and graduate students across the United States. It is anonymous and takes approximately 6 minutes to complete.
Why is this important?
By participating, students will contribute to a comprehensive report on the role of cancel culture in shaping higher education. Their voices will help foster greater understanding and spark constructive conversations around this critical issue.
