IC4ML Summer Updates

September 23, 2021 by Karen Ambrosh

As we all return from a much needed summer break, IC4ML would like to acknowledge some important events and connections made over the summer. We ask you to join us in congratulating our President, Belinha De Abreu and Board Member, Jeff Share for the honors they received this summer at the NAMLE Conference.

Belinha De Abreu

Belinha De Abreu received the NAMLE Media Literacy Researcher Award for her work as a global media literacy educator, serving as an International Expert to the Forum on Media & Information Literacy for UNESCO’s Communication & Information Section. She is the founder of the International Media Literacy Research Symposium and the World Media Literacy Forum, as well as author of Teaching Media Literacy(ALA: Neal-Schuman, 2019). We are lucky to have her expertise and leadership here at IC4ML!

Jeff Share

Jeff Share received the NAMLE Elizabeth Thoman Service Award for his research and practice on preparing educators and university students to teach critical media literacy in K-12 education. He has worked as an award-winning photojournalist, bilingual elementary school teacher, and since 2007, he has been educating new teachers in the Teacher Education Program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Jeff presents nationally and internationally at conferences, provides professional development at schools, and writes about critical media literacy and environmental justice. He has trained educators in critical media literacy in the United States, India, Iraq, China, Mexico, and Argentina. IC4ML and the media literacy community benefit greatly from Jeff’s passion and vision for social and environmental justice.

Congratulations to both of you!

Stay tuned for future event announcements. There is much more coming from IC4ML!
